do u wear your baby around the house to do chores? it seems if sabine wakes up from a nap without me around she gets very upset and can get inconsolable when she wakes up.i've been thinking about wearing her. does this affect their sleep? do u end up with a bad back? i have a bjorn and a ring sling.

    OH YA!!!

I've worn all my kids quite extensively - indoors and out. Much to the shagrin of my maternal elders yet with the support of my partner!! Doing dishes, cooking, dancing, shopping, hiking - you name it! Heck I even had body parts waxed while carrying a babe! As they have grown out of baby hood they have become very confident, little or no sepration anxiety, super independant and yet close to me - ie not stifled acting - Yep, I have suffered with my back and right hip! But it was worth it. I did begin to pay more attention to posture though. The best baby carriers I have enjoyed is a wonderful traditional feeling wrap with about 6 feet of cloth - my hubby calls it "the dance" to get it wrapped in a specific way, and the next best thing was the Ergo Baby Carrier. Can be snuggly type in front, a hip (which I didn't use it for) and a backpack. I have tried many other things and those were my faves. Enjoy!!

oh yes- i wore Sequoia in a sling ALL around the house to get things done. He'd cry if he wasn't held and honestly, ya can't spend your whole day sitting there gazing at your little one in admiration. well, sorta....

"I even had body parts waxed while carrying a babe! "

heh- ditto, but for a pap smear. (he was crying, whadda ya do?)

yup, us too. eventually, dishes had to get done .. dinner had to be made.

i wish in the very early days i had used a moby .. she would have loved it, but she was just as snug & happy in the fleece hotsling.

if anything, it helped her sleep ... she wouldn't nap solo, so wearing her was a lifesaver.

Yes, I wore both kids when doing stuff around the house. They liked it. They sleep well. No back problems. Ergo carrier was the most comfy for me.

we have used and continue to use ring sling, fitted sling, fitted water slings (we both have these because we both like to swim or shower with her but are not the same size), ergo, and moby-d carriers... for chores i like the moby or the fitted sling. my partner likes the ergo and uses it almost exclusively. he LOVES his ergo.

i never got the beco because there were problems with the ordering process due to a recall on the butterfly so i have opted to wait on my own more structured carrier...well, that and it is HOT here in austin. right now we use the peanut shell and the water sling (both fitted) most often as they are so easy and so light.

      note about ergo*

i am too short-waisted (and probably too petite in general) to wear the ergo properly and safely. so if you are short you may want to try on the ergo and attach it yourself before you buy it.

I think different styles work best at different ages (and of course diff temperments). I loved snuggling him in close with a sling when he was a newborn, then as he got a little older we moved to a wrap- very, very snug and secure. Once he hit the "pick me up, put me down" phase and we started to go for really long walks i got a Beco. this was before they changed to the new butterfly style, so no problems there.

My sister has an ergo and we put the beco and ergo side by side and they were esentially the same pack, almost identical dimensions, strap placements, etc. The clips were center versus side, ergo's hood is integral while beco's removes, and beco has more pattern choices but that's about it.

having tried them both with my daughter in them...the ergo is built for longer waisted people ( i had the straps pulled to til they couldn't go any further and still it wasn't fitting and in that position i couldn't clip them together because the clip was too far down on my back to reach at that point) whereas the beco fit my shorter-waisted-body better and more securely without having to pull the straps all the way to the ends. teh pack may be the same but the fit is entirely different.

Hiya, ya I hear you about being small and short!! I had a Kelty Kids Country backpack that I couldnt use cuz my hips were too close to my ribs for the waist strap - too much padding. The Ergo is just barely small enough for me. My problem with this is the shoulder straps cant be held closer together by the chest strap. It feels like it might slip off a shoudler - but it hasnt yet. My fave is the wrap with a super long cloth (8 feet - pardon my 6' quote earlier) The Ergo won over as its faster to do up.
