moses baskets

i apologize if this has been asked before -- i didn't find it.

i'm sleeping on two stacked futons (one thick one very thin) over a box spring. so my bed is several inches lower than a standard bed. i have been thinking a moses basket placed beside the bed might be a good arrangement for in case i don't wind up always being able to sleep well with my baby, because i could always peer over and be right near him.

has anybody had much luck with moses baskets?

money and space are both very short here so if i can benefit from somebody else's experience before i make a mistake i'd be glad.

After we got rid of our arms reach co-sleeper (we never used it,it was taking up too much space in our single room and we could use the money) My friend found a moses basket for us. We used it for several months whenever I needed the bed to myself. It was great too because it is light and transportable for if you travel or even around the house, it was a safe place for Anaya to sleep so that my roommates boys wouldn't accidentally step on her if they were running around. They outgrow it fast though but by then if you really want to co-sleep you will probably feel safe enough to be doing it all the time.

i know space is an issue, but have you thought about maybe moving the thinner futon next to your bed? or rearranging your current setup in whatever is efficient so that there's a space for you and a space for the babe, but easy to go back and forth between them?

i'm living in an SRO -- just one room with shared bathrooms and a kitchen. if i put the other futon on the floor, there would be no floor.
